What Symptoms can Chiropractic treat?

We can treat that?

You may think chiropractors are only able to treat back or neck pain, disc issues or whiplash.  You might be surprised to know they can treat more symptoms beyond those aches and pains. Chiropractic care is based obtaining proper spine alignment.  Proper alignment removes nerve interference; providing the body the best opportunity to heal from within. Chiropractic care uses adjustments to the spine and extremities in order to restore proper movement.  Adjustments also decreases pressure on the nerves and decreases muscle tension or spasm. Overall, this improved spinal and extremity function removes negative stress on your body.

We have seen conditions such as migraines, stress and anxiety, fibromyalgia, weakened immune systems, and decreased flexibility improve with chiropractic care. In support of the adjustment, your doctor can provide helpful information and suggestions for nutrition and supplementation.  They can recommend relaxation techniques and discuss posture and environmental changes.  These will help your body cope with every day stressors affecting your spine and nervous system; especially in our changing work and home environments. They can also provide rehabilitative exercises to help with muscular imbalances and postural changes in order to help the body and spine stay in proper alignment. There are many things your chiropractor can help with, not only those typical aches and pains most associate with chiropractic care.

COVID-19 Update

ProActive Chiropractic was founded on the over-riding principle of bringing wellness to our families and community. We strive to make this the foundation of all our decisions. Our team continues to treat patients in our offices, as it is vital to maintain good health. We also continue to maintain our high standard of disinfecting our chiropractic tables after each patient and also cleaning all hard, common use surfaces throughout each day.

Currently, the Coronavirus (Covid-19) is impacting the health of this country. We are constantly monitoring the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to stay up to date on their recommendations. As Covid -19 works its way into our region, we wanted to remind you of the benefits of chiropractic in fighting illness and the steps to take to combat this particular virus. As many of you know, chiropractic care is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The chiropractic adjustment removes nerve interference allowing for your immune system to function at its highest potential and to combat illness naturally. When the adjustment is complimented by proper nutrition and personal hygiene, your body is in the best position to maintain good health.

What next.

The CDC has provided a number of simple reminders to help you protect yourself from contracting this virus or spreading it to others. You can follow their guidelines through the link provided below. In short; however, it comes down to using your common sense:

  • Washing your hands often
  • Practicing good social distancing
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • We would also encourage you to eat healthy, get the appropriate amount of rest, and to relax.

While a majority of our community will be successful in combating this virus, we must be vigilant in following these guidelines to reduce and minimize the impact on those that cannot. Our youngest and oldest and immune compromised fellow citizens are the most vulnerable. Let’s make sure we all do the little things for ourselves to benefit the community as a whole and reduce the spread of Covid-19.

What if I’m sick?

Unfortunately, there will be times when you get sick. If you are feeling sick, the CDC has also provided appropriate guidelines to help you determine the course of action. You can find those in the link below as well. If you are not feeling well, regardless of the specific virus, please be extra diligent and respectful to those around you by following the CDC guidelines. These steps include:

  • Stay home, except to get medical care. When seeking care, wear a mask, cover your coughs and sneezes, and wash your hands often.
  • Avoid being in public areas.
  • Stay away from people and pets.
  • Isolate until instructed not to by your healthcare provider.

At ProActive Chiropractic, we pride ourselves in maintaining a healthy environment in which we can treat our patients. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions or to schedule an appointment. We do ask; however, if you are feeling sick, please inform our staff when you call. This will allow us to coordinate your time and be prepared for your arrival. Our goal is to support the health of our community and to minimize the spread of illness.

Why Do I Need A Chiropractor When I can “Pop” My Own Neck?

There are many people who “pop” their own neck throughout the day to gain some type of relief or simply without trying during a stretch.  So why is that different than having a chiropractor adjust your neck?

Feeling the need to adjust your own neck could be a sign of an underlying problem or condition.  This occurs due to daily repetitive stresses and strains on the body or postural issues.  For example, sitting at a desk all day long at a computer, or carrying a book bag weighing 20 pounds, causes excessive stress on the spinal joints.

Because of these unwanted stresses on the spine, joints will become inflamed, restricted, and uncomfortable.  This could even lead to a “pinched” nerve if left untreated.  Most of the time when you “self-manipulate”, you are simply moving areas above and below the actual restricted area of the spine that needs to be adjusted properly.

Chiropractors train for a minimum of four years learning the spine and how to adjust it properly.  Proper adjustments will relieve the restricted area and release any pressure placed on the surrounding nerves.  Often if you “self-manipulate,” it may make some popping noises and provide some relief similar to a chiropractic adjustment due to releasing chemicals called endorphins, but it can cause damage.

When a certain area of the spine is restricted or not moving properly, the areas above and below must work harder to compensate for the lack of motion.  This means those joints you continually self- manipulate over and over are moving too much causing ligaments, muscles, and tendons to be unstable and lead to further problems down the road.

So, if you find yourself constantly “popping” or “manipulating” your own neck or back, please call to schedule a complete exam to assess the movement and function of your spine to prevent any potential injury or further damage.  We will then determine the necessary course of treatment including adjustments, postural recommendations, and exercises if necessary, to fully aide your body in functioning the best it can.

Can Chiropractic Help With my Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic auto-immune disease affecting various parts of the body.  It causes inflammation in the body which affects the tissues, organs and may even destroy joints throughout the body.  The chronic inflammation in the body can be affected by the nervous system.

Stimulation of the nervous system is essential for the function and control of inflammatory cells within the body.  If the nervous system is not functioning properly or is compromised in any way causing nerve interference, then those signals may be lost leading the body to not being able to heal itself or even resulting in further inflammation.   Misalignments or subluxations throughout the spine can cause pressure on the joints and “pinch” or irritate the nerves causing pain and inflammation to that area.

Specific chiropractic adjustments to the spine will reduce the area of restriction and nerve interference and will restore the function back to the nervous system and in turn the body.  This will then reduce the amount of stress and inflammation causing less pain and discomfort.

While chiropractic cannot cure rheumatoid arthritis, it helps control pain and discomfort while making activities of daily living more enjoyable.  If you have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis or know someone who is affected, please give us a call so we can help you feel better today, tomorrow, and in the future.
